Making school active and healthy
RYHEALTH Project at Montemor-o-Velho Primary School (Portugal)
On April 24, Montemor-o-Velho Primary School transformed into a lively marketplace celebrating health and community! In collaboration with the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Physical Education at the University of Coimbra, students, teachers, and caregivers organized a special day as part of the European project RYHEALTH. The event offered students in grades 1 through 4 (ages 6–10) a morning packed with fun sports activities, filling the day with excitement and joy.
Alongside these activities, students, teachers, and caregivers hosted a traditional "school market" selling regional products like fruits, vegetables, bread, plants, and much more—all provided by the families of the schoolchildren. Parents, relatives, and friends were warmly invited to explore the offerings and support healthy eating through their purchases.
The European project “RYHEALTH – A holistic approach to rocking your health” brings together schools, families, children, and youth to promote a healthy lifestyle from a young age. It is built on four central pillars: regular physical activity, healthy nutrition, physical and mental well-being, and sustainability.
A thoroughly successful event that demonstrated how RYHEALTH seamlessly integrates health and community into the school day, inspiring young and old alike!
