Connecting Water, Nature, and Healthy Lifestyle for Youth in Cádiz

On July 17, 2024, the MOVE-IT group of the University of Cadiz organized the Spanish RYHEALTH FUNathon at Los Toruños, Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain. The morning event was a vibrant success, gathering 45 youth aged 8 to 16 to learn about the importance of water, protecting nature, sustainable food sources, and promoting happiness through engaging activities.

The FUNathon aimed to raise awareness among young participants about these crucial topics. The event started with an introduction to RYHEALTH's four projects —(Physical) Activity, Food (Healthy Eating), Sustainability, and Happiness—supported by colorful materials like roll-ups, posters, and a photocall in the sports area.

Activities began with running games emphasizing physical activity, increasing in intensity for a fun learning experience. Participants then engaged in a relay game using recycled materials to explore the water content in fruits and vegetables, highlighting nutrition and sustainability. A walk to the San Pedro River allowed discussions on sun protection and the environmental role of water, concluding with mental health reflections and an emotional guessing game. Back in the main area, participants completed fitness tests assessing grip strength and long jumping ability, emphasizing the significance of physical fitness for health.

Overall, the Spanish RYHEALTH FUNathon was a memorable and educational experience, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of water, nature, and a healthy lifestyle, and receiving very positive feedback upon completion.
